Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) has the main aim to teach the Chinese language to foreign students. However this institution also specialises in Chinese stuents learning foreign languages and other relavent subjects in humanities and social sciences. Except for teaching culture and launguage BLCU also trains Chinese teachers for foreign language teaching. Previously it was the only university of its kind in China until the mas growth of tertiary education in the early 1900s. Beijing Language and Culture University is often called 'Little United Nations' because of the vast number of foreign languages at the institute.

Beijing International Studies University is a pubic research and training university located in Beijing.  Established in 1964, this institution was part of a government initiative to promote tertiary foreign language education. This institute grw of the shadows of the 1956 established Xinhua News Agency an has evolved into one of the most well known universities of foreign languages in China.

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) is one of the top eight foreign studies university in China. This institution has been one of the conerstones in foreign education. Gathering intercultural personel and professionals it has become one of the most influencial universities in its feild. Being said to be the birthplace of modern foreign studies it strives to introduce te rest of the world to China. Having established its reputation in linguistics, literary studies, comparative culture and diplomatic studies it was one of the first schools to be admmited into the 211 project.
