Studying at a Chinese College/ University

There has been an increase in the quality of education and level of investment in the tertiary education sector in China. This has been one of the many reasons why several international students are compelled to come study in China.

China spent 4% of its GDP on education in the year 2012. Since then it has seen a massive growth in this sector and strong international patronage. Currently, China spends over 250 billion USD yearly on human capital which involves educating young people who are migrating from rural areas to urban areas.

With all these investments by the government into the educational sector, the number of universities and colleges that can educate international students has double to over 3000. The new mission by the government is to develop their technologies to match that of the western world and then compete with them also.

By the year 2020, the government of China is aiming to have over 500,000 international students studying in universities in China, and to support this goal a rising number of scholarships are being awarded to international students every year.

What are the Benefits of Studying in China?

  1.  Chinese universities have an ever growing  reputation

Recently Chinese universities are becoming more respected. That can be seen with the increase in the number of universities listed in the global university rankings. This rise has been very steady over the past 5 years and it has been projected that within the next 5 years more Chinese universities will rise up the rankings. Whether you intend to take up a graduate job or further your education with a postgraduate study, the reputation of your university is and will be very important.

  2.  The Heavy Investment of the government into  International students.

One of the most important factors to consider when wanting to study abroad is financial support. The government of China has been offering wide ranges of scholarships to support international students, and over the past years it has offered over 40,000 scholarships to over 300 universities. More than 40% of international students in China received a scholarship of some sort in 2015.

  3.  You will be joining a growing trend.

China is increasingly becoming one of the world’s most popular destinations for international students who want to pursue higher education abroad. Currently China is the 3rd most popular destination behind the USA and the UK for international students who want to study abroad. 10 years ago more than a third of all the international students studying in China were from South Korea and other parts of Asia, but now that percentage has percentage has fallen to just 17%.

Students are now from all over the world including Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australia. Making the decision to study in China is a very smart move for any students that will be looking to experience diversity.
