Founded in 1950, Chongqing University of Post and Telecommunications (CQUPT) is one of the few universities that has been blue-printed and given priority to develop by the State. It has also grown into a prominent university and is acknowledged by its excellence in the field of information industry both within and outside China. 

The university covers an area of 730 acres. There are over 24,000 students, including more than 4,000 postgraduates. It has a faculty of more than 1,600 and has about 100 well-known experts as well as more than 20 fellows who are visiting or part-time professors from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as from countries like the UK, Canada, USA, Poland, and India. Currently, CQUPT has 15 colleges and departments, 47 undergraduate programs, 38 postgraduate programs, and 2 PhD programs. 

The university has built many well-established relationships with over 50 universities from other countries such as USA, Canada, UK, Germany, and Korea etc. With these other universities CQUPT participates in student exchange, scholar visits and joint research. CQUPT has also built partnerships with some world IT leaders such as HP, Cisco, Microsoft, and Oracle. Our university has set up the CQUPT-HP Joint School of Software and the International Institute of Semiconductors(Chongqing), both of which focus on joint training and research. CQUPT admits international students supported by Chinese Government Scholarship, Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship, President Scholarship and self-financed international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The university now has over 300 international students, from 52 countries such as Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, Republic of Kazakhstan, USA, France and Canada. CQUPT has also successfully hosted many international academic conferences and attracts overseas statesmen, business elites, eminent scholars and experts to lecture or visit. 

CQUPT commits itself to innovations and explorations, and is known as “the birthplace of digital communication in China” and “the cradle of specialists in the information industry”. It holds leading positions within the R& D of wireless network engineering and testing, the next generation wideband wireless communication, computer networking and information security, intelligent information processing, industrial EPA and sensor networking, advance manufacturing, micro-electronics and specialized chip design. The university has also assumed over 800 scientific projects at either state or provincial/ministry level. The university was granted the National Technology Invention Award, and the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and is ranked among the top 100 of China in terms of science and technology, further being acknowledged as the national model for IT innovation and Hi-tech industrialization.

The university surrounded by mountains, is located in Nanshan Scenic of Chongqing Municipality, now covers an area of 730 acres with a building area of 700,000 square meters. There are over 24,000 students, including more than 3,000 postgraduates. The university has promoted Sino-us Dual-degree Program with Northern Arizona University which focus on student joint training. The university now has over 400 international students, from more than 60 countries such as Korea, Vietnam, Russia, Mongolia, Republic of Kazakhstan, USA, and France.  Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications  is a public university located in China's fourth municipality: Chongqing, which focuses on the research and education in the field of information and communications and enjoys a nationwide reputation in the study of posts, telecommunications and information technology, especially for its research and commercialization in 3G mobile technologies, optical sciences and related digital research.[1] It is one of the four Universities of Posts and Telecommunications in China and the only one of its kind in the Southwest China. The university enjoys a very good reputation in the ICT industry in China due to its high quality education and research and the large number of alumni working in the ICT industry. Due to its achievements and contributions in the field of Information and Communications, especially in the development of China's own digital communications systems, CQUPT is considered as the cradle of China's digital communications.

CQUPT was founded in 1950 along with the foundation of the People's Republic of China and the communist takeover of Chongqing. It was initially founded in the name of Chongqing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications. In 1965, it was entitled to have postgraduate programs as one of the first ten colleges which had the right to have such programs in the then Sichuan Province (Chongqing separated from Sichuan Province as a Municipality in 1997). In 2000, under the university system reform in China, the University became co-governed and co-financed by the Chinese Central Government together with Chongqing government. In 2006, CQUPT Constract with MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China) become one of the universities supported by Ministry and Province (Municipalities) government.
