BTBU held Establishment Ceremony of “Pakistan Study Center of Science & Technology and Economy at BTBU” and “International Seminar on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Scientific & Technological Cooperation”



BTBU held Establishment Ceremony of “Pakistan Study Center of Science & Technology and Economy at BTBU” and “International Seminar on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Scientific & Technological Cooperation” on 30th November at Fucheng Campus. Prof. Tan Xiangyong, BTBU Chairman of Board, Mr. Wang Qinglin, Deputy Director General of CAST Department of International Affairs, Mr. Shozab Abbas, Counsellor of Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Beijing, attended the conference and launched Pakistan Study Center of Science & Technology and Economy at BTBU together. The Establishment Ceremony was chaired by Ms. Liu Ying, Director of BTBU International Office. 


On behalf of BTBU, Prof. Tan Xiangyong delivered the welcome speech. He said that the establishment of Pakistan Center of Science & Technology and Economy at BTBU was significant and would have its long positive impact. BTBU emphasizes on the communication and cooperation with Pakistan universities. There have been 21 Pakistan students studying in BTBU from 2013. The university will facilitate the development of Pakistan Study Center at BTBU. With the efforts of every part --- we can together provide very supportive consultation and service relating to science and technology and economy, facilitate the transfer of technology between the two countries, promote the non-governmental exchange, and thereby accelerate the development of the innovative and open economy of both countries, and create a bright future for the cooperation between China and Pakistan in science, technology and other areas. 


Mr. Shozab Abbas, Counsellor of Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Beijing, expressed warm congratulations to the establishment of the Pakistan Study Center at BTBU and introduced the history of China Pakistan Relations. He said that the friendship between China and Pakistan had experienced the test of history. With the great development of China’s economy, the country now could help other developing countries. He hoped that the establishment of the center will play an important role in the communication between the two countries. 


Mr. Wang Qinglin, Deputy Director General of CAST Department of International Affairs, set a high value and recognition to the establishment of the Pakistan Study Center of Science & Technology and Economy at BTBU. He expected that the scientific communities of two countries could accelerate the all-round cooperation under the frame of “The Belt and Road Initiatives”, and create the friendly partnership to benefit both sides, and complementary to each other. 


After the establishment ceremony, International Seminar on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Scientific & Technological Cooperation was held. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Zhang Zhengping, Chairman of BTBU School of Economics. Mr. Liu Jianxing, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Center of National Development and Reform Commission, Prof. Chen Yongjun, Deputy Dean of Institute of China’s Economic Reform & Development, Renmin University, Prof. Zhang Xiaotang, Director of BTBU Personnel Department, Assistant Prof. Kashif Hussain Mangi, Pakistan Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology, Mr. Tariq Aziz, PhD in BTBU Food Science and Engineering gave the presentations during the session respectively. 


Dr. Luo Yubo, Deputy Dean of BTBU School of Economics chaired the free discussion session. Mr. Sun Zhanlei, Director of Eco-Agriculture and Food Safety Forum for the Belt and Road Contact Department, Dr. Di Yuna and Associate Prof. Zhu Zhenrong from BTBU School of Economics had discussions during the session. 


The establishment of Pakistan Study Center of Science & Technology and Economy at BTBU reflects that BTBU has been actively involved in China’s “One Belt One Road” strategy. Currently, the center has been approved by CAST “One Belt One Road” Pakistan technological issue study center project, and it is believed that the center will become a characteristic in the major of International Trade at BTBU.

Prof. Wang Xiaoyi, Director of BTBU President’s Office, Ms. Zhang Chunping, Director of BTBU Publicity Department, Mr. Kang Zhiyong, Deputy Director of BTBU BTBU Department of Science & Technology, Ms. He Dongmeng, Deputy Director of BTBU International Office, Prof. Guo Xinmei, Deputy Dean of BTBU School of Economics, all members of BTBU International Office, teachers and students from BTBU School of Economics, BTBU overseas students attended the conference.

 

Delegation of HBCU Leadership visited BTBU



The delegation of HBCU Leadership visited BTBU on Oct 31. Prof. Li Chaoxian, Vice-President of BTBU met the delegation on Fucheng Campus. 


Vice-President Li Chaoxiao expressed his warm welcome to the delegation and gave the brief introduction of BTBU in terms of general information, subject setting, discipline characteristics and international development. He said that BTBU welcome leaders, teachers and staff from foreign universities to visit us and communicate experiences of teaching and management. He expected that BTBU could strengthen ties with the United States universities according to this visit and promote the development of educational internationalization. 


Head of the delegation, Interim Vice-President of U.S. Spellman College, Dr. Dolores V. Bradley introduced the delegation’s members and gave the general information of Spellman College. She hoped that BTBU and U.S. universities could explore more opportunities for the cooperation between teachers and students. 


Dr. Anthony Wutoh, Provost of U.S. Howard University, Dr. David Jackson, Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University and Director of Henry Wise Student Health and Wellness Center, Ms. Rita Wutoh introduced their universities respectively and expected to develop multi-field international cooperation with BTBU. 


Director of BTBU Academic Affairs Office, Prof. Zuo Min, Director of BTBU Department of Science and Technology, Prof. He Mingke, and Director of BTBU International Office, Ms. Liu Ying gave the speech of BTBU research cooperation, teaching system and international student curriculum respectively. Afterwards, the two sides had a discussion on the field of common interest. 


After the meeting, the delegation visited BTBU library and International House with accompany of Ms. Liu Ying, Director of BTBU International Office and Ms. He Dongmeng, Deputy Director of BTBU International Office.

Representative of Canada University of New Brunswick visited BTBU

 


The representative of University of New Brunswick (UNB), Professor Daniel F. Coleman, Assistant Vice-President of UNB, visited BTBU on October 23, 2016. BTBU President Sun Baoguo met the representative on Fucheng Campus. Ms. Liu Ying, Director of BTBU International Office, hosted the meeting. 


 President Sun Baoguo expressed his warm welcome to Professor Daniel F. Coleman and gave the brief introduction of BTBU. He said that as a multidisciplinary key university in Beijing, BTBU has a lot of similarities with UNB in terms of subject setting and scientific research. On the basis of the two universities’ partnership, BTBU and UNB will develop the cooperation in talent cultivation and provide more opportunities to international researching programs for the teachers from both sides. 


He expected that the two universities could develop cooperation in fields of common interests. Professor Daniel F. Coleman gave the general information of University of New Brunswick and he hoped that BTBU and UNB could explore more opportunities for the cooperation between teachers and students from both universities in the related areas and promote the communication between the two universities. Canada University of New Brunswick, found in 1785, is the oldest English-language University in Canada, and among the oldest public universities in North America. It is also the first university to establish the programs of Engineering, Computer Science, Business Commerce and Forestry in Canada. Engineering, Environment and Ecology, Chemistry and Social Science have entered ranking top 1% in ESI. BTBU and UNB have signed MOU in 2016, and began to start the student exchange program from 2016 autumn semester. Prof. Xu Baocai, Dean of BTBU School of Food and Chemical Engineering, Asst. Prof. Liu Ye, Director of Food Science and Engineering Laboratory in BTBU School of Food and Chemical Engineering attended the meeting.
