Training Objectives

The transmission of diseases across the world has drawn the attention of people all over the world to Public Health and Preventive Medicine. To improve the health of the global population and prevent the transmission of communicable diseases, the School of Public Health will offer an undergraduate Preventive Medicine program to international students.

Program Length and Degree to be Granted

In this program, the students will generally study for a period of 4 years, which can be extended to 5 or 6 years if needed. After the students have completed all the required courses, the students will be awarded a Bachelor of Medicine degree.

Qualifications for the degree

1. The students have to meet the school’s cultivation objectives’ requirements, and acquire all the required knowledge and ability according to the curriculum.

2. The students have to complete all the courses required by the curriculum, pass all the exams and finish the graduate internship with the credit granted.

3. To qualify for admission into the undergraduate preventive medicine program, the students should be native English speaking high school graduates or speak fluent English and be able to handle academic requirements in English. The students should have sound physical and mental health and no criminal record.

Teaching Methods

Teaching Language: English

The major disciplines of the program are Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

The core courses include physiology, biochemistry, anthroponomy, pathologic biology, pharmacology, pathology, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, paidology, lemology, health statistics, epidemiology, environmental hygiene, occupational health and occupational medicine, nutrition and food hygiene, hygiene toxicology, microbiology and hygienic chemistry.

* Preventive medicine (concentration 1):children and adolescent health, women’s health care, health education, health service management

* Health inspection (concentration 2) :air physical and chemical inspection, water physical and chemical inspection, virology examination, bacteriology examination, Analysis of Biological Materials, clinical laboratory techniques

* Undergraduate Education Programs of Jilin University Nutrition and food science (concentration 3) :fundamental nutrition, applied human nutrition, food hygiene, food physical and chemical analysis, clinical nutriology

Careers

Students after graduation can be enrolled in fields of medical, health, environmental protection, import and export inspection and quarantine. They can go to scientific research institutes, colleges and universities, administrative departments of the state and large enterprises related to disease prevention and control, health supervision and monitoring, health service management, reasonable people nutritional guidance, health inspection and quarantine, environmental monitoring and clinical inspection, and they also can do some jobs like teaching, scientific research and management in the related fields.

Tuition fee

According to the Chinese Ministry of Education regulations, tuition fee, accommodation fee and miscellaneous fee will be charged in accordance with industry standards. Students will be responsible for their own cost of living. School provides relevant supports in study and living.

Tuition fee is 26000 RMB / year; accommodation fee is about 600-1200 RMB / month.

About us

Since its founding in 1958, the School of Public Health of Jilin University has evolved continuously to where it is today. Reflecting the widening scope of public health and preventive medicine, the School has become quite broad and encompassing in order to face the growing challenges of the contemporary world.

The School has a dedicated and capable faculty team with a variety of excellent resources for teaching and research. The faculty members have undertaken hundreds of projects, such as National Science and Technology Research Projects, National Natural Science Fund Projects, and Projects funded by National Ministries. Currently, the School offers three Postdoctoral programs in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Basic Medicine (Radioactive Medicine), and Public Management (Social Medicine and Health Management). Moreover, the School offers a Doctoral program in level-one discipline of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and in level-two discipline of Radioactive Medicine, Medical Genome, Social Medicine and Health Management and Medical Informatics. In addition, the School offers a Masters’ Degree program in level-one discipline of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and in level-two discipline of Radioactive Medicine, Medical Genome, Social Medicine and Health Management, Medical Informatics, and Health Law as well as one Master of Public Health program.

The School offers undergraduate programs in Radioactive Medicine, Preventive Medicine (Nutrition and Food Science, Health Inspection), Information Management and Information Systems (Medical Informatics Management), and Health Law.

In the spirit of collaboration, the School of Public Health has established ties with various prominent universities overseas. We currently share a joint education program - Masters of Public Health - with the University of Kentucky, as well as student exchange programs with the University of Alberta, the University of Manitoba and the University of Oklahoma, among others. We also have joint research programs with various colleges and/or laboratories throughout the globe in countries including America, Canada, Japan, Australia, England and others.

The School of Public Health of Jilin University is located in the city of Changchun, Jilin Province.
