1. Program Description

The objective of talents cultivation in Geographic Information Science aims to cultivate professional and academic talents and application and development talents with high quality that are equipped with basic knowledge of Geography, in possession of basic theories, basic knowledge and basic skills of Geographic Information Science, with capability of expertly applying geographic information technologies and methods and undertaking study, teaching, development and application of geographic information. The basic requirements of talents cultivation of this major is to grasp basic theories and basic knowledge of Earth Science, Information Science and Geographic Information Science; in possession of wide academic vision and with comprehension of development frontier of Geographic Information Science and research in remote sensing field, with capacity of applying Geographic Information Science, remote sensing and satellite navigation and position system and technology to solve problems in relation to information acquisition, analysis processing and decision support in Geography.

2. Program Duration and Credit

This is a four-year undergraduate program, which can be completed within a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years. A total of 158 credits are required upon the completion of the program.

3. Curriculum

Three modules of courses are offered for the program: Basic Curriculum, Essential Curriculum, and Elective Curriculum. The Basic and Essential curricula are compulsory for a Bachelor’s degree. The Elective Curriculum in the list includes extended disciplinary courses offered by the school into which an individual student is admitted, as well as cross disciplinary courses offered by other schools. Students can choose the extended and cross disciplinary courses according to their personal interests and career plans; however, credits should be approved by the School.
