  • President of Turin University visited SZU








On the morning of March 24th, President Gianmaria Ajani and Professor Shi Fenna paid a visit to SZU. Gianmaria Ajani is the President of Turin University(hereafter “TU”), while Professor Shi Fenna is the dean of Confucius Institute in Italy. President Li Qingquan and Vice President Wang Hui of SZU met with them.

     President Li Qingquan firstly gave a general introduction of SZU’ s international exchanges and cooperation. He said, “SZU had attached great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. With frequent international exchanges and cooperation, SZU had already established cooperative relationships with 197 universities and actively carried out various forms of cooperative training and international scientific research up till now. Besides, SZU and TU has established a profound friendship for a decade”. He continued, “With students keep going to study in TU each year, there are up to 127 students of SZU who has been sent there since March, 2009 when the first 21 students went to study there.” He also expressed his hope to promote two universities’ cooperation actively and steadily. Apart from student exchange project, SZU also looked forward to furthering masters’ and doctors’ joint-training programs, food safety research, health research institutes’ establishment, etc.

    Afterwards, Gianmaria Ajani introduced the basic information of TU. He said, “Turin was a sister city of Shenzhen. As one of the oldest universities in Europe, TU can boast of its basic disciplines, such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, economics, law, agriculture, medicine and psychology. particularly, its Economics and Business Administration were prestigious in European continent”. He also expressed his expectation of more exchanges of majors, a larger number of undergraduates, and the establishment “3 +1” or “3 +2” project as well. Finally, he expected there would be more cooperative opportunities with SZU, such as cooperation in exchanging language teachers and students for different terms, etc.

  Later on, they had a further discussion on academic exchanges and cooperation in chemistry, medicine, scientific research and innovation, industry-university-research’ talent training program, joint training program and so on.




  • Chairman of Science Union of Nobel Winners Visited SZU







On the afternoon of March 23rd, R.J. Roberts, Chairman of Science Union of Nobel Winners, visited SZU. President Li Qingquan, Vice President Xu Chen and Professor Ni Jiazuan met with them. Professor Ni is the Honorary Dean of college of Life Sciences and Oceanography. He is also an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Some other superintendents from college of Life Sciences and Oceanography, Talent Office, International Office also attended the meeting.

President Li Qingquan extended his warm welcome to Sir R. J. Roberts and his fellows, and then gave a brief introduction of SZU. Firstly, he said that SZU have invited more than 100 well-known scientists around the world to give lectures, which greatly contributed to the development of the scientific research of SZU. Secondly, he pointed out that SZU has attached great importance to cultivate and develop young teachers’ scientific research ability.

In order to encourage young talents to promote innovative research, SZU has given them great support with research platforms and project funds. Thirdly, there are numerous young talents invited to participate basic research of SZU every year, besides, SZU also encourages students to carry out scientific research. Furthermore, he expected to further exchanges and cooperation with Sir R. J. Roberts and his fellows in relevant fields. 

Later on, R.J. Roberts expressed his appreciation and said that Science Alliance highly valued basic research, though it is a long-term and tough process, we must try our best to do it down-to earth instead of pursuing business interests excessively. He said business opportunities are very accidental, and only when we do basic research well, can we grasp them in time firmly. Moreover, He emphasized that giving young people more space and money and encouraging them to do more basic research had great significance. At last, he analyzed the importance of basic research from the his own chemical field.






  • A Cultural Delegation from Romania and Serbia Visited SZU




 On the afternoon of March 27th, a cultural delegation from Romania and Serbia visited SZU. Prof. Tao Yitao and other superintendents met with them. Tao Yitao is the Vice Secretary of SZU Party Committee, the Director of China Center for Special Economic Zone Research  (hereinafter “CCSEZR”) and the Dean of Belt and Road International Cooperation Development Institute (Shenzhen) (hereinafter “BRICDI”).

Firstly, Tao Yitao introduced SZU briefly, with a special introduction of CCSEZR. Established in 2001, CCSEZR has five research institutes, including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Research Institute, Population and Resources Economic Institute, Capital Market Research Institute, Human Capital and Social Security Institute, and Innovation and Industrial Development Institute. It has master's program, doctoral and post-doctoral program in the field of Theoretical Economics, gathering 14 experts or chief experts from Special Economic of State Council and National Social Science Fund. Moreover, since its establishment, a number of high-level and distinctive research has been achieved. 

For example, it has hosted some worldwide influential academic forums and conferences successfully, including China Special Economic Zone Forum and World Economic Zone Forum, which attracted lots of well-known experts and scholars to participate; it has published the Blue Book of China Special Economic Zone Development Report,China Special Economic Zone Research Journal in both Chinese and English; it has also established academic relationships with many foreign resource units and universities, and signed a Party Government Cadres cooperation agreement with Hanoi, Vietnam and an agreement with Cambodian Royal Institution, etc. She also gave them a brief introduction of BRICDI. This institute is a non-governmental think tank, which was co-sponsored by SZU and Shenzhen Jinglan Company. Jinglan Company donated 120 million RMB to build a building named Wu Yuzhang Lou in Houhai campus. Besides, the institute has also set up other programs as the Belt and Road Scholarship, Entrepreneur Alliance, overseas academy of “Belt and Road Initiative”, etc.

On behalf of the delegation, minister’s assistant thought highly of the remarkable achievements that CCSEZR and BRICDI had made. This assistant was from the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Serbia. He indicated his great pleasure to carry out more exchanges and cooperation with us. Subsequently, principles from four universities of Romania and Serbia showed their universities’ characteristics and strengths with slides, expecting to cooperate with SZU in the future.






  • President Li Qingquan met with General Consul of Singapore Consulate in Guangzhou


On the morning of Jan. 12th, President Li Qingquan met with Mr. Cai Denghe and Mrs. Ye Shihong, who are the General Consul and the Vice General Consul of Singapore Consulate in Guangzhou respectively. Representatives from International Office and Centre for Basic Laws of Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions also attended the meeting.

 President Li Qingquan extended his warm welcome to them, and gave them a brief introduction of the development of our university. The cooperation with Singapore was also mentioned, such as Collaborative Innovation Centre for Optoelectronic Science Technology and Center of Singapore Studies. He also expressed his hope to strengthen the student communication with National University of Singapore, and to establish academic connection with Nanyang Technological University.

   Mr. Cai said that Singapore highly valued the cooperation with China, especially with Guangdong. The development of Shenzhen and its experience in the cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao was well worth learning. The Consulate was readily to help to build a broader platform of cooperation between Shenzhen University and universities in Singapore.

 Later on, Mr. Cai had an informal discussion with professor Zhou Pingxue and professor Zhang Dinghuai, both of whom are from Centre for Basic Laws of Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions. And the discussion mainly focused on the cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the economic and trade, people's well-being and education of Hong Kong.
